NGO meets Majhi for upgradation of Employment Exchanges

Unity Education Foundation (UEF) met Labor & Employment Minister Prithibi Majhi recently to press for the modernization of Employment Exchanges in both the rural and urban reaches of Assam. In a memorandum to Majhi, UEF drew his attention to the burgeoning problem of unemployment in the state which it held responsible for anti-social behaviour, increasing insurgency and terrorism in India's NorthEast; Assam in particular.

The proposal seeked online registration facilities for the issuance of employment registration, renewal, transfer and user-friendly digitized platforms in Employment Exchanges. It suggested networking with dedicated government and private websites to work as credible clearing houses between job seekers and employers coupled with an understanding of vocational training. Introduction of sms and email alerts for sharing job-seeker's databases with employers for the extention of employment services through Public-Private-Partnerships and offer facilities for screening and short listing of prospective employees.

This organisation felt would play a pro-active role in redefining objectives of private sector placements and convert Employment Exchanges into centres of excellence for the employment of the youth. Demographic dividends may become demographic disaster if education, employability and employment are poorly managed. While the rectification of Universities and schools will take a long time, the reformation of our skill-system and Employment Exchanges are achievable, urgent and in the hands of the State Governments the memorandum stated an wished for technological developments in the interest of the youth population.
