Teachers' Day celebrated at Nagaon
Rich tributes were paid to Dr S.Radhakrishnan on his birthday by Lioness & Lions Club of Nagaon Greater. The Club members visited and organised a Function at Navarup Jatiaya Bidyapeeth at Nagaon and felicitated all the 27 teachers of the school with Fulam Gamochha, Citation and a memento for their unmatched and selfless service to the society.The school has a remarkable academic record.Later,the school students presented Xatriya Dance & 'Jatiya Sangeet" as part of the cultural show. around 300 students were present. Lion members B K Manglunia, Llit Kothari,Pradip Lohia,Anil Sharma,Sunil Goenka,Ashok Agarwal and Lioness members Kusum Devi, Lily Laskar, Renu Baruah, Sayera Begum, Deepa Saikia, Dr Kanchan Bala, Geeta Saikia, Rani Sarmah,Babita Jain played a key role in the success of the programme. The effort was lauded by the school teachers and parents.

Lions Club of Nagaon Greater organised a mass-marriage ceremony on March 17 at Jain Bhawan, Nagaon in which 25 couples tied knots into wedlock. This is the third consecutive year in which the organisation has organised the event.The couples which were mainly from the tea tribe were from the far flung areas of the district and selected after a long drawn process. The event was conducted with traditional rituals which was followed by a feast in which over 400 people. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Nagaon Bar Association on March 18. Attending a meeting on this occasion organised by the association, Gogoi recalled his earlier days when he himself was a lawyer. He sanctioned an amount of Rs.50 Lakh for the development of present building and a liabrary. Around 120 entries were received and the winners were judged by a team headed by eminent artist Mr Sujit Roy. Miss Prastuti Sarma was declared winner while Nibid Atreya and Sanjib Medhi secured 2nd and 3rd place respectively while Ankurima, Tanaz Karim,Nandini Bora,Debangjyoti Saikia,Tinashree Sarmah,Abukrita Bharali and Himashree Mahanta were awarded consolation. Lions Club of Nagaon Greater organised an Eye Camp on September 1 at Jakhalabandha Hospital. A total of 415 patients were examined and free medicines were provided to them. Out of the total cases, 119 were selected for FREE IOL Operation to be conducted at Nagaon in Batches. Dr D Chetia Phukan, Dr A K Laskar and Dr Phani Pathak conducted the camp alongwith para medics.
