Protest Rally at Maibang

Demanding immediate restoration of electricity and proper water supply etc. the students community of Maibang organised a protest rally at Maibang on Friday.


Thousands of students from different colleges, schools of Maibang took out a procession from Dishru Cultural Club Play ground marched through the major parts of Maibang town converged at the Office of SDO (civil). They also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam through the SDO(Civil), Maibang.


Mention may be made here that the people of Maibang Sub-Division are deprived of electricity since June 26th last. They had also boycotted I Day celebration to register their grievances but the authority concerned seemed to be ignorant about their problems, they alleged.


They further warned if the electricity was not restored immediately they would be compelled to close all the government offices in Maibang. Talking to this correspondent Sri Ashok Langthasa, President, Dishru Cultural Club disclosed the Chief Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Sri Debojeet Thaosen following the boycott of I Day met the power minister Sri Pradyut Bordoloi who has assured that the electricity in Maibang would be restored within 48 hours and one AGM of ASEB would camp at Maibang till the restoration was done. Langthasa also thanked the CEM for his initiative in this matter.

With the casting of 80% plus of votes in the polling to the 11th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election passed off peacefully and with great enthusiasm among the people of Dima Hasao District. The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission on Saturday will hear a petition challenging Assam State Electricity Board’s move to hike in power tariff.
