The toll in Kokrajhar violence mounts to 11 on Saturday. The district administration has clamped curfew to ensure peace in the entire Kokrajhar area where three more persons killed in group clash a day after unidentified miscreants killed four ex-BLT members.The situ


ation spanned out of control as soon as unidentified miscreants killed four former BLT cadres at Joypur area on Friday night. In retaliation, unidentified persons fired killing a 60-year-old man Shahadat Hussain and injured four others in Duramari area under Kokrajhar police station early on Saturday. A 14-year old boy, Zakir Ali, was stoned to death by unidentified persons in Narabari area of Kokrajhar Road. In yet another attack during the day, four others were injured by armed men in Kodalduha under Fakiragram police station.

Bangladeshis should not think Bodos as like other communities in Assam or in India. They have no rights to protests for discrimination in BTC area being illegal immigrants as Oboro. Today,only for misrule and indifferent of successive Assam government since independence towards this mias,incidents like this happening.Media should not use minority community,should use illegal immigrants,using minority word gives disrespect to fellow indian muslims,especially Goria,assamese muslim

To The Editor Sub:- Bodos / Assames should not compromise on illegal immigrants issue. Dear Sir As per reports in prominent national print and electronic media, the gory on-going riots in Bodoland Territorial Administered Districts (BTAD) of Kokrajhar, Baska, Chirang etc. areas of the Indian State of Assam is now turning out to be locals vs migrant settlers issue. The Bodos / Assamese feel they are losing the demographic advantage due to the influx of `illegal’ settlers and might soon turn a minority in their own land. Because Bodos / Assamese think that so far, no political party has applied itself to tackling the issue of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh therefore the Bodos and the people of Assam should immediately move the High Court / Supreme Court as given below:- (1)- First and foremost the Bodos / Assames should not compromise on illegal immigrants issue. While State and Union Governments are doing their best to control these riots and to maintain law and order in the State and in this exercise the Bodos / Assames should fully co-operate with these Governments, but at the same time the High Court / Supreme Court should be immediately moved by Bodos / Assames against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. (2)- There are other States too in India which are suffering from the problem of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Therefore it will go a long way in solving the problem of illegal immigrants in Assam if these other effected States are also mobilized by Bodos / Assames to move their High Courts and Supreme Court against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. (3)- In these petitions the Courts should be prayed to identify, track and deport these illegal immigrants. For this Courts should also be prayed to direct the Government of India to ask Bangladesh to take these illegal immigrants back.

AUDF demands repolling in Samoguri, Hailakandi

The Assam United Democratic Front has demanded repolling in Samoguri and Hailakandi alleging largescale rigging by the ruling party in the third phase of panchayat polls. Addressing the media, party president Badaruddin Ajmal has accused the ruling Congress of rigging and booth capturing in the third phase of polling in Samoguri and Hailakandi.He said the Congress buried all democratic principles by forcibly stamping on the papers after capturing the booths. He maintained that ninety five percent voting in Samoguri and Hailakandi district were only because of rigging by Congress activists.

Pollution panel warns AMCH

The Assam Pollution Control Board chairman has asked the Assam Medical College Hospital and a section of nursing homes to stick to the rules for drainage of waste materials within a week. During his recent visit to the upper Assam medical college, the Board chairman Jawarharlal Dutta alleged violation of rules laid down for clearing the waste materials. Notably, despite repeated instructions, the Assam medical College in Dibrugarh along with some other nursing home have yet to stick to the Bio medical Waste Management Act. These are only because of sheer lackadaisical attitude of the Assam Medical College Hospital and a section of private nursing homes.

Explosive material recovered in Nalbari

The Army and police on Friday have recovered a huge amount of explosive materials in Baram chawk in Nalbari district. These include five exclusive devices and two hand grenades. All these were recovered from a book shop owned by Laba Sarma in the place.

Bombs found at NE Express

Two country-made bombs have been recovered in the New Delhi-bound North East Express from Guwahati on Friday morning. This has forced delay in the train to halt at a railway station in Bihar.According to information, a passenger spotted the bombs at 6.30 in the morning and informed it to the driver of the train. These bombs were wrapped in a newspaper lying under the seat.The bombs were then put into a water-filled bucket for defusing at the platform.The train was allowed to resume its journey after being stopped for about two hours.

ULFA corporal arrested in Sonari

A hardocre ULFA leader has been arrested during a joint operation by police and Army in Sonari on Friday wee hours.According to information, 268th Field Regioment jawans conducted a joint operation with Sonari police at around 3 AM in Tingalibam area and apprehended ULFA corporal Raju Chetri with linkman Diganta Hazarika.Raju, now in police custody at the Sonari police station will be produced in Sivasagar court later on Friday.Notably, another corporal Puwali Duarah of 29th battalion was killed in Makum at an encounter on Thursday.

9 injured in car accident

Altogether nine people have been injured while a van and an Alto car had a head on collision in Chariduwar under Rangapara police station on Thursday evening. The condition of four of them is said to be critical. The injured people have been rushed to the nearest hospital immediately after the incident.

ULFA corporal killed in encounter

ULFA’s corporal Puali Duwarah was killed in an encounter in the wee hours on Thursday in Makum. According to information, the encounter took place at Aahatguri village under makum police station in Tinsukia district between the 2nd Bihar regiment jawans and the ULFA leader.Army jawans further recovered one .32 pistol and one magazine from the slained militant. The militant is a resident of Hatijan village of Makum Tinsukia district.Top ranked army, police and civil officials have rushed to the spot and the situation is to be normal but an eerie silence is prevailing.

National handloom expo under way
