Dima Hasao selected for The Indigenous Fellowship
Avantika Haflongbar, eldest daughter of Rajendra Haflongbar and Pratima Haflongbar of Haflong in Dima Hasao has been selected to participate in the 2012 Indigenous Fellowship Programme at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.
The objective of this programme was to give you the opportunity to gain knowledge of the UN system and mechanisms, dealing particularly with indigenous issues, so she can better assist in protecting and promoting the rights of indigenous peoples and disseminate the knowledge acquired.
The Indigenous Fellowship Programme has started on 11 June and will end on 13 July 2012. It is learnt that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights would bear the cost of her travel expenses (return flight ticket from her place of residence to Geneva) and would give her a daily allowance to cover her living expenses, including accommodation, food and local transportation for the duration of the Programme.

Based on specific input about a cache of hidden weapons in general area of Damsodiang Phai (Daiphai) village under Maibang Police Station, a troops of 9 MADRAS along with Assam Police personnel launched a search operation to recover the said cache on Wednesday.
