1 killed, 6 injured in Kokrajhar firing

One person died and four others sustained serious injury at a sensational shoot out in the district on Friday. The incident took place in Amthihara at around 8-30 in the evening where unidentified miscreants started firing at a group of people. One person died and six others have been injured. The deceased was identified as Nurul Haque while the injured persons, identified as, Sakim Ali, Safikul Islam, Saiful Haque and Majibur Rahman have been rushed to the hospital.

Repollling ends in Karimganj

Amid watertight security, repolling passed off peacefully with a brisk note in seven booths.

Voters in large number were making long queues to exercise their franchise till 5 in the evening after it began at 7 in the morning.

Repolling was conducted in Gaglachera LP School and Ananta Vidyaniketon under Hilakandi assembly constituency, Deorail Maktab Bhanga ME Maddrassa, Rakeshnagar ME School under Badarpur assembly constituency along with Chargula LP Schoool under Ratabari assembly constituency and Nakirkona LP School under South Karimganj Assembly Constituency.

Call off strike: Guv to teachers

Nagaland governor PB Acharya appealed to the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan (RMSA) agitating teachers to withdraw their strike for the benefits of the students.

He said the strike greatly affects less fortunate and weaker section of the society and it also deny the right to education to the children of the schools.

Acharya further directed the government to address the grievances of the teachers expeditiously by releasing their pending salaries so that they can perform their duties without further delay.

The aggrieved teachers, under the umbrella of Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association 2013 (NRMSA 2013), launched their agitation from August 21 last by boycotting classes in their respective schools.

Cong strategy for RS polls

Rajya Sabha polls are slated for February 7. The ruling party is believed to have chalked out a slew of strategies to win the three Rajya Sabha seats.
Party leaders are in touch with AIUDF and independent legislators to ensure win in all the three seats.
The party still falls short of 8 votes to occupy the three seats which are set to be vacant following the expiry of the terms for Bhubneswar kalita from Congress, Biswajeet Daimary from BPF along with Birendra Prasad Baishya from AGP.
