The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Dima Hasao District Committee has urged the Central Government and Assam Government to take action for immediate construction and repair of the badly damaged roads, bridges and clearance of land locked roads all over Dima Hasao Autonomous district of Assam through providing the requisite amount of fund under Article-275(1) or under any other provisions as early as possible, stated a press release issued by the Publicity Secretary, ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee, Haflong.
Along with taking the immediate steps to provide adequate amount of relief fund to the bereaved families of the victims who lost their lives and to the injured people owing to the landslides and incidence of washing away of human lives and properties following the recent downpour as natural calamity in the said Autonomous district. The ASDC District Committee appreciates the Army, the NGO and some local people for their rendering the commendable service both in the rescue work at the site of the landslide and in the relief work to the stranded passengers of Railway.
It may be mentioned here that during the recent natural calamity in Dima Hasao Autonomous district, most of the roads were damaged and landlocked, and the bridges were collapsed, and at least four people died, several people were seriously injured and some people are still unaccounted for after the landslide at Mahadev tilla near Haflong town, two children were washed away at Leiri village in Jinam Valley and innumerable number of houses, cultivation land and other properties were badly devastated. Road and Railway communication between Haflong and Silchar, and between Haflong and Lumding have been totally paralyzed. All the roads which serve as lifeline such as the roads from Haflong to Lumding through Mahur, Maibang etc, from Maibang to Khepre, from Mahur to Laisong and other vital roads in the remote areas of Dima Hasao Autonomous district have been paralyzed. As a result, the Road and Railway Communication in Dima Hasao Autonomous distric remained cut off from the rest of the country.
