NRL Football Academty at Numaligarh

NRL Football Academy opened yet another new chapter in Assam football when its state-of-the-art infrastructural facility was inaugurated in Numaligarh by Deepak Chakravarty, Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL). The academy will run under the professional expertise of SPT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd and Assam Football Association. Ankur Dutta, Secretary Assam Football Association and Vice President of All India Football Federation, Jatin Bora Vice President of All Assam Students Union, Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat Sanjiv Gohain Baruah, President of SPT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd Saran, Chief Manager HR, NRL Kajol Saikia, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility Pranab Kumar Sarma were present on the occasion. The academy has appointed Oscar Bruzon Barrears, UEFA Coach from Spain as a Technical Director of the academy. While addressing the gathering including young footballers, Deepak Chakravarty said, “While NRL is playing a pivotal role in overall economic development of the state, we are very much attentive in giving priority to the sports activities as well, particularly football.


Today’s event is a major step in nurturing and grooming the budding footballers of the state to prepare them to find a berth in senior side at national and international level.” Ankur Dutta, Secretary Assam Football Association and Vice President of All India Football Federation said “I thanked NRL for their endeavor to set up the football academy. It is the first professionally managed football academy of the state and I am very hopeful of the outcome.” He further said that present football scenario of the state is dominated by institutions like OIL, ASEB, Assam Police, FCI etc but they have not yet come out to promote football in the state and with the setting up of NRL Football Academy the football scenario will change some major breakthroughs in the years to come. “The main goal of the academy is to produce better players by providing technical and tactical knowledge to the boys. We have picked this raw talent from the schools with no formal training. We aim to develop this potential new talent in to professionals who can represent us at state, national and international level in future,” said Oscar Bruzon Barrears.


Sanjiv Gohain Baruah thanked Chakravarty for his whole hearted support in making this academy a reality. He advised the young boys to play the game true sportsmanship. “You have to be true sports men and enjoy the spirits of the game. Hard work, dedication and sportsmanship are important facets of the game,” Baruah added.


Notably, 40 young boys in the age group of 10 to 12 years within 10 km radius of NRL were picked up by the selection committee through an open trial. Around 140 boys had participated in the trails.
