National Environment Awareness Campaign held

A day long program for National Environment Awareness Campaign 2012 was held at Dighaldari Kakati Middle English High school premises on May 29, 2012. The program was organized by International Computers that was supported by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India and Assam Science Society. The theme for this year celebration was ‘Forest for Sustainable Livelihood’.


The programme was presided over by Chandra Nath , Headmaster, Dighaldari Kakatigaon Middle English High School. Delivering the opening speech putting light on the campaign with relevance of forest for sustainable livelihood , he stressed on the need of plantation of medicinal plants in schools ,colleges and houses.


Jatindra nath Paroi, ex- head, Department of Geography , Raha college, speaking on the occasion elaborately explained the need and importance of forests and trees in human life. He also introduced the students of the school with Green House effect and the Chipko Movement.


Dr. Shasindra Borthakur, Vet, and advocate , Guwahati High Court , in his speech appealed everyone to protect green environment and its surrounding wildlife. He introduced the students with the ‘ Jal, Jameen and Janghal Bachao’ movement by the Adivasis and spoke on the ‘Climate Refugee’ programme begun in Sundarvan.


Dimpi Bora of Indian Forest Service , also spoke on the occasion. In the begining ,a sapling plantation programme was also organized in the school premise in which Prafulla Nath, Phani Bora, Nileshawari Devi, Chairman, International Computers, Kukima Deka, Nilutpal Nath, Deepti Devi and the students of the school took part.

A degree student named Chintu Bordoloi , son of late Amrit Sing Bordoloi of kalikajuri village of Morigaon district committed suicide by jumping under the Brahmaputra Mail on August 9 at 10.30 am at Nakhula Grant , 2 km distance from Jagiroad station. Senior Health Officer held for scam

Nagaon police on June 26th arrested Dr Harendra Barua, Sub-divisional Health and Medical officer of Barapujia Block of Nagaon district in connection with the National Rural Health Misssion NRHM) scam that was brought to light recently. Health hazard - corrupted health officials in police custody

Two health officials, Devajit Bhuyan, programme manager of the National Rural Health Mission ( NRHM ), Barapujia Development Block and Pradip Kumer Bora, accounts officer, NRHM, the aforesaid block have been sent to police custody by the Nagaon Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court on June 12. Lightning kills 16 cows in one spot at Raha

‘An undoubtedly tragic scene !’- People passed comment visiting the spot. It was on 8th April in the afternoon at around 4.10, while 16 cows died on the spot at Raha in Nagaon district. According to eyewitness , there was a heavy rain that continued for more than twenty minutes at Raha which was followed by strong lightning. The cows sheltered under a tree to keep themselves safe from the downpour. Unfortunately, they all were struck by lightning which led them all to death on the spot.

Nagaon shines in HSLC results being top in the list
