4 Maoists killed in Sadiya encounter

Four suspected Maoist activists died during an fierce encounter with security forces in Tinsukia district on Wednesday. The encounter took place in Sadiya. The deceased include a top commander Sanjeev Borah, who took the lead in setting up a Maoist base in Assam. The massive operation was undertaken following a tip-off about the presence of a group of Maoists at Deopani Borgora village under Sadiya police station.


The security forces then launched an operation in the area and in the ensued encounter four Maoists were killed.
Search operations are continuing in the area and huge quantities of arms including AK-47 rifles and hand grenades have been recovered from them. A police constable also sustained critical injury in the encounter. He was identified as Achinta Das who has been rushed to the Assam College Hospital in Dibrugarh.
