ASTEC planning for massive National Children’s Science Congress in Assam


Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) has decided to organize National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) 2012 in Assam in massive way, along with other parts of the country.


In this context, a daylong State level meeting was held to discuss about ‘National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) 2012’ at office of the ASTEC yesterday, the April 6th, 2012. Inaugural session of the meeting is presided over by Sri Haresh Ch. Dutta, ACS, Director of ASTEC. The inaugural session is addressed by Dr. Anil Kumar Goswami (Former Director of ASTEC), Dr. A K Baruwa, Principal, NITS, Mirza, Dr. S. K. Choudhury, VC, Science and Technology University, Meghalaya and Prof. S. N. Ojah.


Dr. Chandra Baruah, State Coordinator NCSC-2011 explains the objectives of the meeting and Jaideep Baruah, Head i/c, Environment Division, ASTEC briefing about the past of NCSC Assam.


Addressing the meeting, Prof. A K Misra, Chairman, Academic Committee, NCSC 2011, Assam said that, we should work more sincerely for making NCSC more effective.


Jayanta Kr. Sarmah, Academic Coordinator, NCSC 2011, Assam discussed briefly about few concepts on Energy based Project suitable for children’s science congress. It may be mentioned that this year’s theme for NCSC Project will be based on ‘Energy’.

Addressing meeting from the chair president, H C Dutta said that he will extend all possible support within his capacity to make NCSC in Assam a grand success. He expects full cooperation from all the ex and present members of State NCSC Family.


After a day long discussion a State Level Organising committee (SOC) formed for which Haresh Ch Dutta, ACS, Director of ASTEC, Jaideep Baruah, Head (I/c), Environment Division ASTEC and Romen Gogoi are selected as President, Working President and State Coordinator respectively.


Selecting Prof. A K Misra as Chairman and Dr. Jogesh Borah as Academic Coordinator, a State Academic Committee also formed in the meeting. The meeting has also selected Mowsam Hazarika as Editor of Amar Bigyan, a souvenir of NCSC.


It may be mentioned that National Children’s Science Congress is a nationwide programme organized by NCSTC-Network and catalyzed & supported by RVPSP, DST, Government of India.


This year Assam Science Technology and Environment Council will function as State Coordinating Agency.

The Assam government Wednesday appointed 768 doctors in a recruitment drive that is expected to revolutionize the region's rural healthcare sector. The recruitment campaign has a catch though, as the appointments were made for a one-year period as part of the government legislation that makes it mandatory for all MBBS graduates to serve for a minimum of one year in rural health centres.
