Cattle Vaccination Campaign at Morigaon
Giving importance to the domestic animals under a preventive measure for disaster risk reduction programme, Morigaon Mahila Mehfil has been conducting Cattle Vaccination and Awareness Camps at flood vulnerable areas of Laharighat and Mayang Block on March 24-28. This programme is being organized with the financial support of Oxfam India and technical support of District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Deptt. Morigaon.
This is part of an initiative Morigaon Mahila Mehfil supported by Oxfam India. The project aims to initiate disaster risk reduction covering 20 worst flood prone villages under Morigaon district. The 20 villages are located in two development block of Mayang and Laharighat block. Approximately 1800 households would be covered directly by the project and an approximate population of 11000 people.
Out of total population of Morigaon district 80% people live in rural area and economy depends upon the agriculture, which is prim source of livelihood. But every year most of time of harvest session the cultivated land stay submerge under water due to inundation of floodwater which rises to shortage of food to the house hold lead to fall under Penury. Besides, flood seasons see huge loss of livestock, which is an integral part of agriculture-based livelihoods in the remote villages, due to sickness & in the absence of adequate veterinary services and protection measures.
