K N Saikia Report to be tabled on Thursday

The K N Saikia report on secret killings will be placed on the fllor of the House November 15.

Responding to a question in the Assam Assembly session on Tuesday, parliamentary affairs minister Bharat Chandra Narah said the Government is fully prepared to table the report on Thursday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently announced that his government would file the report in the winter session of the House.

Notably, Justice K N Saikia commission was investigating a number of cases of extra judicial killings that rocked the erstwhile Mahanta Government from 1998 to 2001.

The commission grilled former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, sitting AGP president Brindaban Goswami, Tripura Director General of Police G M Srivastava, police superintendent Prasanta Kumar Dutta and a few surrendered ULFA activists.

The K N Saikia Commission was set up after the government rejected the Justice J N Sarma report which failed to indict the culprits involved in it.
