Panic grips in Sivasagar town following the recovery of a powerful bomb on Friday evening. The bomb was recovered from the ASTC Bus Stand which was kept inside an unclaimed bag. Later it was defused by police and army.
Altogether five people, including three of a family, were killed when lightning struck them in a field in in Goalpara district Friday. A three-day camp on free and open source software called “FOSSilize” is going to be held at IIT Guwahati campus on September 3-5. The goal of the event is to increase the awareness, integration and adoption of free and open source software (FOSS) tools among the students. The emphasis is on building the capacity of the students to use FOSS. The event will bring together students from both the technical and non-technical colleges in the region. Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh says his government would not allow any big dam to be constructed in the north eastern region. His assurance came up when Assam's RTI activist Akhil Gogoi called on him on Tuesday. Notably, this was what he meant to informed the elders on Monday. Gogoi met Jairam and sought his intervention in the on going big dam construction works in Arunachal bordering Dhemaji district of Assam.
