Much to a major disappointment for Assam and its people, the Centre has announced Padma Bibhushan for legendary maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika along with four other eminent scholars a day before the Republic Day.


Dr Hazarika would posthumously receive the second highest civilian award for his exceptional and distinguished service in vocal music. For the last couple of years the state has been urging the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna for the legendary maestro. The cry of Bharat Ratna gathered momentum when the maestro passed away on November 5 in Mumbai.


The Assam Legislative Assembly in its winter session also unanimously passed a resolution for the country’s highest civilian award to Dr Hazarika. This is the second highest civilian award the Centre announces on the eve of the Republic Day every year.

Dr hazarika doesn't need any award to place himself in the hearts of Assamese people...

Assam Govt tables Manisana Report on Beltola Clash

The Assam Government has tabled on the floor of the House the report on the Beltola Clash that rocked the state on November 24 which left 2 people dead .and several others injured. The report contains some uncharitable remarks against the Kamrup district administrations and police for failing to bring the law and order situation under control. An Adivasi girl was also stripped off during the incident in Beltola area in the city. A shaken government set up the Justice Manisana panel to probe into it who filed the report before the government two months back. Devastating fire ravages Bhutnath in Guwahati

Army bust ULFA camp in Arunachal

Centre allocated 50 solar street lighting systems for Assam
