In yet another sensational case, a 27-year-youth from Assam committed suicide in Bangalore. His brother also has been charged with attempting to commit suicide in the same city on Sunday.
Both they blamed failure to get a job ensured. Santanu Chetia Phukan committed suicide on Sunday a few days after he and his brother, Indosan arrived in the city in search of job on January 21.
Santanu committed suicide by hanging while his brother attempted suicide by slashing his wrist. Indosan is critical and has been admitted to a hospital. Both they completed diploma in agriculture science e and were preparing to attend a interview on Tuesday.
The police got the phone number of the duo’s parents through the mobile phone of one of them. Their parents are expected to reach the city on Tuesday.

Very sad to know the news.This news was published very next day in bangalore TOI.Those guys should not have taken extreme step like this. Like them in search of job and higher payment,assamese guys comes out of there home state and live and work in all the big cities like Chennai,bangalore,Pune,Mumbai,Delhi.Educated and not able to have future scope in home state is acceptable to migrate but low end jobs like security jobs is worthless. These guys are living in pathetic conditions even though they earn min 5000+ but if ones compares with live standard and saving,its better to be at home state and innovate some good ideas to do business or work hard in agricultural fields.I donnot understand why all Assamese think living and working outside Assam makes them feel proud and if one resides in Assam thinks lower level and looks down.I analyzed,even many assamese working proff or students residing outside assam makes them feel aloof. And its also funny to say,assamese residing in Assam looks upon differently,gives importance to assamese residing outside assam.

Three peope have been injured while a powerful blast rocked a vegetable market in Nalbari. The explosion took place at 6in the evening. The injure peopes have been rushed to the hospital. The Union home ministry has sent a slew of instructions for the north eastern states to deal with any situation during the Republic Day celebrations in the region. With less than 24 hours left for the Republic Day, security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peace and normalcy during the day. The Bongaigaon police have recovered some explosive materials inside a bag from a bus which was on its way to Bongaigaon from Barpeta in the morning.According to information, the bag was recovered from the bus bearing No AMB 2081 during a routine check at the Chapaguri Road at around 10-35 in the morning on Friday. NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. Amid tight security, Assam is going to the fourth and final phase of the panchayat elections in Darrang district from in the morning on Thursday. The polling is going on at 728 voting centers in the district. As many as 4,50,000 voters are voting for 3659 candidates. The voting will end at 4.00 pm. Around 70 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31, while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4. An estimated 74 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the third phase of polling on January 9.
Thirty-eight ULFA cadres, including a woman cadre, laid down their arms before the army in Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday morning. The group was by Nayan Kakoti who surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division.
