Tai language scholar, historian, litterateur Aijep Phukan no more
Scholar of Tai language, historian, litterateur and literary pensioner of Chetia Gaon of Lakhimpur town, Aijep Phukan died due to cardiac arrest at Dispur Nursing home on January 21 at an age of 75 years. He was born at Jalukkota-Narayanpur of Lakhimpur in 1943. Late Phukan dedicated his life for the development of Tai culture and literature. “Swadhinota Jujaru Chowfalung Urofe Ranuwa Gohainsi”, “Akhamor Atit Aru Bortomaan”, Tai Sankskritir Jilikoni”, Mohabibir Lachit Borphukan” are some noted book published by Phukon. From 2009, Phukan received literary pension of Assam government and on 2010 he achieved literary award from Assam government. He was the founder editor of the “Pulansi” the Tai-language magazine publish after three months. Till the time of his death, he was the President of “Lakhimpur District Phuralung Sangha”. He was buried with mausoleum at Nolakota of Lakhimpur. Late Phukon left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter at the time of his death.
