2 dead and 3 injured at Sivasagar district in two road accidents
In separate road accidents on Friday, 2 persons died on spot and 3 were seriously injured. One was at Suffry, Sonari where a Maruti 800 of Ghana Gogoi of ONGC was hit by a TATA Sumo (without number plate) from back. As a result the Maruti car was badly damaged and Handique badly injured. Though Gogoi was admitted to the Charaidew Sub-Division Civil Hospital at Rojabari could not be saved. The Tata Sumo was hired by Army personals, who are in civil dress and fled from the spot after the accident.
The other accident was at Hatighuli of Gaurisagar on National highway 37. A blue colour Indica going towards Jorhat made head on collision with a rice carrying truck going towards Sivasagar. The driver of the Indica, Nirmal Dey of Milon Nagar of Sivasagar died on the spot. The passengers, Sajad Ansari (Jharkhand), Amrit Kumar (Bihar) and Tapon Gogoi (Mahora, Sivasagar) injured and shifted to Sivasagar Civil hospital at Joysagar are now in serious condition.

A historical museum "From Yunan to Patkai" in memory of Chow Lung-Sukapha, founder of Ahom kingdom was inaugurated at Charaidew by fomer DoNer minister B.K. Handique. In Charaidew is the graveyard place of Ahom kings where their mausoleums are lying. The museum was contructed under the area development fund of Bijoy Krishna Handique, former Doner minister and member from Jorhat parliamentary constituency.
In this inaugural function, along with Handique, Dr. Hemprava Saikia, Debobrata Saikia, MLA Nazira, Sarat Saikia, MLA, Mahmora and many distinguished persons were present.
Ramdhenu Drama Troup of Hahsora staged the historical drama, “Bagh Hazarika” at Nazira Natya Mandir on February 11. The drama which is written by Jitu Jyoti Gayan, a young dramatist of 30 years of age, directed by Anup Borpatra Gohain, Jeto Bon Boruah and Jhahnobi Saikia.

To develop trade and economic ties with the neighbouring Myanmar, the Indian government will start bus services from Imphal to Mandalaya, Myanmar. A high level team of union surface transport ministry, lead by Joint secretary, will arrive at Imphal on February 21 for this puspose. Already discussions are going on between the Indo-Myanmar border trade Union and Republic Myanmar Border trade chamber and commerce for this service. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested ONGC’s civil wing General Manager P K Bora charging him with taking bribe from a contractor in his office. Before that an eleven-member CBI team from Guwahati had arrived in Sivasagar and probed the bribery allegations leveled by a contractor, Chanchal Konwar. Bora allegedly had demanded bribe for his bills to be passed for work done. The CBI team headed by DSP Zamang recovered cash 80,000 from the possession of Bora.
