After months of will-it-won’t-it, the Assam Government gets ready to table the secret killing reports by Justice K N Saikia Commission in the winter session of the Assembly.
Making this sensational revelation at a press conference on Thursday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says it is one of the biggest killing case in the country.
Mr Gogoi refuses to divulge the contents in detail despite repeated request by the reporters.
A section of political leaders with some top ranked police officials in the Mahanta regime might land in trouble if the report is tabled in the upcoming Assembly session in the first week of November.
Moreover, the report will be a big big blow for the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and its break away Asom Gana Parishad (Pragatisheel) in the upcoming panchayat polls.
Notably, the Justice K N Saikia Commission, set up to probe the extra judicial killing during the erstwhile Mahanta government, submitted the final report in September.
The government could not place it in the Budget session saying it an incompleted report.
After coming to power in 2001, the Gogoi government set up a commission headed by the justice J N Sarma but rejected the report and ordered yet another enquiry by justice K N Saikia.
The Justice Saikia Commission grilled several political leaders and top ranked police heavy-weigths to ascertain their roles in the killings that rocked the erstwhile APG-led four party alliance government.
Those summoned include former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, AGP president Brindabon Goswami, surrendered ULFA leaders including Jugal Kishor Mahanta and Manipur’s director general of police Ghana Shyam Srivastava and Dhubri superintendent of police Prasanta Kumar Dutta.
