Road mishap at Raha, 10 critically injured
In a freak road accident near ASEB office at Raha, 10 persons were injured and some others grievously hurt including the drivers. The accident involving a magic (AS-02-E 7504) and a truck (AS-01-W 2195) took place at 6.30 a.m. this morning on newly constructed four-lanned highway at Raha when the magic carrying a marriage party collided head on with the truck coming from Nagaon to Guwahati.The wedding party is said to be returned , after performing marriage, from Dimoriya in Kamrup district to Jagiyaal village in Nagaon.
The situation turned tragic at bride groom's houses as kin of his family and villagers suffered critical injuries in the accident. The injured persons including those who suffered fractures, are admitted to the Nagaon civil hospital.

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. According to police, the arrested Pranjal Deka had nexus with Tiwa insurgency group Tiwa Liberation Army ( TLA ) and came to Raha on an extortion drive at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.

A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
Normal life remains heavily paralyzed in Raha following a 12 hour bandh by the various local organizations who are dead opposed to the proposed AIIMS in North Guwahati instead of central Assam.
