Maghi Utsav is being organized at Bahgarh, Simoluguri

The Bahgarh branch of All Tai Ahom Student Union has organized Maghi Utsav January 17 at historically importance, Bahgarh of DhupaborMauza of Simoluguri, Sivasagar. On that occasion the traditional games and sport like Buffalo-fight, Cock-fight etc will be held. The Buffalo-fight is be inaugurated by noted theatre artist PranabjyotiDutta and the Cock-fight will be inaugurated by ManashHandique, the President of Nazira Sub-Division of ATASU. The MLA of Nazira, Mr. DebobrataSaikia will attend as guest of honour. Cultural function will also being organized in the evening which will be inaugurated by Lalit Borah, Staff reporter of Amar Asom, news paper. A reception committee is already formed with HemantaSaikia as president and BipulBoruah as Secretary for this purpose.

Scholar of Tai language, historian, litterateur and literary pensioner of Chetia Gaon of Lakhimpur town, Aijep Phukan died due to cardiac arrest at Dispur Nursing home on January 21 at an age of 75 years. He was born at Jalukkota-Narayanpur of Lakhimpur in 1943. Late Phukan dedicated his life for the development of Tai culture and literature. “Swadhinota Jujaru Chowfalung Urofe Ranuwa Gohainsi”, “Akhamor Atit Aru Bortomaan”, Tai Sankskritir Jilikoni”, Mohabibir Lachit Borphukan” are some noted book published by Phukon. In separate road accidents on Friday, 2 persons died on spot and 3 were seriously injured. One was at Suffry, Sonari where a Maruti 800 of Ghana Gogoi of ONGC was hit by a TATA Sumo (without number plate) from back. As a result the Maruti car was badly damaged and Handique badly injured. Though Gogoi was admitted to the Charaidew Sub-Division Civil Hospital at Rojabari could not be saved. The Tata Sumo was hired by Army personals, who are in civil dress and fled from the spot after the accident. The other accident was at Hatighuli of Gaurisagar on National highway 37.
