Declare Assam as tribal state: Pramud Gogoi

The veteran CPI politburo member and ex. Minister of Assam, Pramud Gogoi, in a press meet on Friday at Sivasagar again tabled his demand for declaration of Assam as tribal state. He raised this year long demand for protection of identity, literature-culture and assets of our state.


Mr Gogoi demands that for the existence of our historical identity the Article 370 of the Indian constitution should be imposed in our state. He again mentions due to the imposition that article the existence of Kasmiri people fully under protection though their population is lower than than the other people.


Like in the neighbouring state Nagaland, due to the article 371 (a) of the Indian constitution, the Naga people has got their right on resources of their state. He remarks that due to the illegal foreigners and infiltration of people of other parts of India, the Assamese people have already turned in to minority. Besides in lower Assam the 36 constituencies are already going out of hand of the Assamese people. The demands the central and state government, to initiate immediate step for declaration Tai-ahom, Moran, Motok, Chutia, Koch-Rajbanshi and tea community of the state for scheduled tribe status or to face agitation.

Social worker, ardent follower of satriya culture and astrologer, Prasanna Mahanta of Sr iSri Na-Mati Katonipar Satra, Nangalamora passes away at Assam medical college, Dibrugarh on January 17 at an age of 53. Due to a sudden stroke, Mahanta became unconscious during a pal-nam of this Satra organised for Bhogali Bihu. He was shifted to Assam Medical college, Dibrugarh. The sudden demise of Mahanta creates sorrow among his family and friends. He was also an employee of irrigation department. Late Mahanta left behind his married daughter, a son and his wife.
Dead body of 18-year-old youth, Abhijit Kalita of Namti-Misajan recovered under suspicious condition from the rented house of Makhan Borah of B.G. road Sivasagar, near the ONGC colony on January 18. The dead body was found hanging on the varanda of the rented house. Abhijit was a driver in the contractual vehicles plying on ONGC duty.
Dedicated follower of vaishnovite culture and retired teacher Minakanta Dutta of Panibil-Gumutha, near Nazira passed away at an age of 93. Besides his devotion to social work, late Dutta published a book "Sarba-Gunakor" related to vaishnovite thought and principle. Late Dutta was felicitated by the Sahitya Sabha and Teachers day celebration committee for his dedication to the society.
The foundation stone of legendary singer, Dr Bhupen Hazarika is laid at “Joya Samonoy Khetra”, Joya tini-Ali, Bokota in Sivasagar district by Mrs Abonti Pame-gum Chetia, noted Mishing folk artist, All India Radio’s singer and Ex. The proverb, “Third time lucky” is completely proved in a dangerous road accident today near the Simoluguri police station, of Sivasagar district. The bike rider's life is saved fortunately. The accident is occuered at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday - a Honda CR100 motor cycle (AS-04-E-4440) entered near the back wheels of the Sivasagar-Sonari bound 709 mini bus (AS-04-B-3438). the bike is badly damaged. Police have taken this lucky man to hospital but his name is unknown till sending this news.
