Cultural activist Makhan Bhuyan bid farewell to the World
The devoted cultural activist, freedom fighter, educationist, social worker and artist Makahan Bhuyan of Kalugaon, Shaloguri, Sivasagar bid farewell to the world at an age of 91. After the demise of Bhuyan the intellectual group become overwhelmed with grief. He was an active worker of “Babor Sena” of Seujkonwer Paragdhar Chaliha during freedom struggle. He was the founder of “Sewojia Samaj” music school of Sivasagar town. He was felicitated by “Sivasagar Press Club” for this life long contribution to the society on last August 19, 2011.

Me-dam-me-phi, the auspicious festival of Tai-Ahom community is celebrated at several places in Sivasagar district on Tuesday. It is celebrated at the historical Talatal Ghar by the historical monuments preservation committee, at Shiva Dol by Ahom Raj Chora and at Gorgaon Palace by ATASU. On yesterday evening, at Laxmijan stone quarry under Nazira police station of Sivasagar district, Urmila Khatun (29) and her three years son Mejajin Ali died on spot in a stone quarry mishap under 6no quarry of his Mahadev Kurmi is the contractor. The accident occurred due to the falling of heap of stone on the workers. The seriously injured husband Giasuddin Ali and elder son Giasuddin Ahmed admitted at hospital.
