Anundoram Borooah Award in Dima Hasao
The ceremonial distribution of personal laptop to students’ who secured 1st Division in the HSLC Examination 2010 in Dima Hasao District under the Honourable Chief Ministers’ Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme 2011 was held on 30th November at Cultural Institute Hall Haflong under the aegis District Administration.
The programme was attended by the Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Shri. Kalijoy Sengyung i/c Education as Chief Guest while the Deputy Commissioner Shri. Dilip Borthakur, IAS presided over the meeting. The ideals of Late Anundoram Barooah was invoked by the Chief Guest while giving his speech and also gave a word of inspiration to the student community to excel in their field of studies to give a good name to their homeland.
Earlier, a two minute silence prayer was held as a mark of respect to the departed souls of Late Dr.Bhupen Hazarika and Late Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Speeches were also heard from the Deputy Commissioner, Shri.Dilip Borthakur,IAS as he applauds the successful students and also inspire the student community to follow the ideals of late Anundoram Barooah . This year 190 students from 30 schools received the Award. The ceremony was also attended by Ashutosh Paul a retired Educationist, Senior Citizen Shri Somnath Upadhaya and other dignitaries including Officials, students, general public etc.

Police recovered a Chinese grenade from Essar Petrol Pump here at Haflong this morning which was kept near oil lifting machine. Mentioned may be made here that the Essar pump is belonged to Niramal Langthasa, youngest son of the Local MLA Sri G. C. Langthasa. This pump is situated adjacent to the residence of the MLA. When the entire state is getting ready for the ensuing Assembly election, here in Dima Hasao, the lone 16-Haflong (ST) constituency, no enthusiasm was observed till the date.
Because—Lone constituency, more over the people are interested in Autonomous Council and above all the ruling Congress (I) last time denied the ministry for the lone MLA of Dima Hasao. Demanding immediate resumption of ‘Hill Queen Express’, several organizations of Maibang like Youth Council for Development, Dishru Cultural Club, J. B. Hagjer Club, Dimasa Women Society, Maibang Sports Association etc and people from Kalachand organized 100 hours Rail Blockade from 6 AM of February 25 at Maibang Railway station.
They had earlier on February 7 submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Railway Manager, Lumding for the restoration of the ‘Hills Queen Express running in between Lumding – Lower Haflong. As the DRM, NR Railway did not respond to their memorandum, they have decided to go for 100 hours Rail Blockade.

During the 2nd Day of the 100 hours NCHills Bandh suspected bandh supporters remove fish plate of the railway track near Lower Haflong Rly Station at about 2.50 PM resulting to the derailment of down goods train bound for Badarpur with no injury to any person.
Railway personals and police rush to the spot to restore the communication. It is to be mentioned here that the railway authority had earlier suspended all the passenger trains upto January 27 as precautionary measure but running of goods train was on. But today’s derailment disrupt total rail communication in between Lumding – Badarpur..
The NC. Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum sponsored 100 hours N. C. Hills Bandh started from 6 PM on Friday disrupted the normal life at Haflong. Due to 4th Saturday all the offices remain closed. No vehicle was seen on the road except of security.
The NCHISF has been demanding immediate bifurcation of N. C. Hills into two Autonomous District with separate Autonomous Council. The Government has also constituted a task force to deal with them. Last 21st January was fixed for talk in-between task force and the IPF and NCHISF but it was deferred by January 28th. Now both the organizations are demanding immediate solution to their demand.
