Woman empowerment project by by Murphulani T.E.

As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Andrew Yule Group’s Murphulani Tea Estate has undertaken a project for the empowerment of women living in the vicinity of the Bogijan division of the tea estate. The project named “ALOR DISHA” is a vocational training on tailoring being carried out with the help of Garia Sarda Home for Women & Child Welfare, Kolkota, an NGO working in the field of women empowerment and various women related issues. A total of 54 beneficiaries are given training in two groups by a group of trainer, supervisor and project director under the aegis of Dr. Sarmistha Chatterjee, Secretary of Garia Sarda Home for Women & Child Welfare, Kolkota. While talking to Assamtimes S.K. Hazarika, Manager of Murphulani T.E. said that “we were using eight hand operated and two foot operated sewing machines for the project and ultimately these machines will be handed to the trainees by forming some Self Help Groups”. Monju Nayak, a participant of the project told that she is very much excited about the training being given to them. This is the first of its kind of programme being held in their tea garden. On being asked about her expectation from the program she told that she hope to be self sufficient after the completion of the project. The training is being imparted in three phase and the second phase of the training got underway today in the presence of S.K. Hazarika, Manger, Sanjib Baruah, Assistant Manager and J.P. Singh Medical Officer of Murphulani T.E .
