ATPA contributes Rs.5 lakh to CM’s relief fund

An eight member delegation of Assam Tea Planters’ Association (ATPA), an apex body of indigenous tea planters of Assam, led by its Chairman A.R. Kasera, donated a sum of Rs. 5,00,000.00 (Rupees Five Lakhs only) towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at CM’s official residence on 17 Oct 2011. The delegation was also accompanied by Bidyananda Barkakoty, Chairman North Eastern Tea Association(NETA). ATPA was formed by indigenous tea planters in pre-independence period on 23rd June 1935. These indigenous tea planters started tea plantation in a hostile environment and on lands discarded or considered unsuitable by the British Planters. Starting from a humble beginning of 17 Member Tea Estates, the Association has grown from strength to strength and it now has 190 Member Tea Estates and is entering its Platinum Era of existence. ATPA will celebrate its Platinum Jubilee, with a two-day programme in the third week of April, 2012 at Jorhat.
