Army topguns are drawing up a set of massive strategies to make its crackdown against United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) more effective even as several top cadres are all set to surrender.
Chief of Army Staff Deepak Kapoor hold a series of meeting with top ranked security officials at the 4 Corps headquarters in Tezpur on Wednesday and Thursday and reviews the operations against the proscribed outfit in the state.
Several crucial issues relating to the offensive against the militant outfit came up for discussion and he instructed his senior officials to make the operation more elaborate and effective.
General Kapoor further visited the Indo-China border areas in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday and assesses the situation prevailing in the area.
Addressing a press conference in Tezpur on Thursday, Kapoor says insurgency always stymies the process of development and therefore he advocates operations against the ULFA.
On the other hand, after the surrender of Pranjal Saikia at Dinjan Army camp on Wednesday several topguns with the ULFA’s 28th Battalion are in touch with the police for surrender. These include the crack unit’s finance secretary Ujjal Gohain.
In yet another development, intelligence agencies have intercepted some messages from ULFA containing instructions to launch offensive the Hindi-speaking people.
