Operations against DHD to continue: Assam Governor

Assam Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajai Singh said on Wednesday that military operation against the Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) militants in North Cachar Hills district will continue till the situation in the district returns to normalcy.

Mentionably, Meghalaya Police arrested eight DHD militants from Shillong on Sunday. Governor said that the arrested cadres included Action Dimasa, the third in rank in the DHD outfit.

"No disturbances will be tolerated in the NC Hills," the Governor said. The NC Hills is going to hold the elections to its autonomous council in November. The election was postponed earlier due to the killing of its Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purnendu Langhthasa and executive member Nindu Langhthasa on June 4 this year.

"Arrest of Action Dimasa has damaged the DHD group by 50 per cent. The security personnel are looking for its commander Jewel Garlosa. Action Dimasa was involved in the June 4 killing and his capture is a great success."

The DHD is a descendant of the Dimasa National Security Force (DNSF), which ceased operations in 1995. Jewel Garlossa refused to surrender and launched the DHD in 1996. The DHD aims at creating a "Dimasaland" for the Dimasa people, which would include parts of Cachar, Karbi Anglong, and Nagaon districts in Assam, and sections of Dimapur district in Nagaland

On the other hand, denying the media reports about the rift between the Governor and Chief Minister, Mr Singh said, "There is no any difference. We are working together. The polls in the NC Hills will be free and fair."
