Poet's meet at Bokakhat

A national poets' meet is being organised under the auspices of Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with JDSG College authority, Bokakhat on November 21, where a number of luminaries from across the country will get together.

Twelve renowned poets from outside Assam most of whom are Akademi Award winners, are likely to participate, besides many distinguished poets of Assam.

Meanwhile, the JDSG College, Bokakhat is preparing with full might to organise the meet smoothly. Mridul Boruah, convenor of the organising committee, who himself is a poet of repute, informs that several sub committees have already been formed and all are working sincerely to make the programme a success. A souvenir is also proposed to be brought out to commemorate the occasion. Contacts are being made with Sunil Gangopadhyay, Gulzar, Jay Goswami and Jayanta Mahapatra for their presence on the occasion.

Hope this meet will analyse the recent trends of Assamese Poetry and effects of the local, global and technological paradigms on poetry in general and Assamese poetry in particular. To organize a national level poets' meet in a small townlike Bokakhat is very encouraging. It will develop a conducive atmosphere for the people of this locality to feel proud and at par with national sentiment.
