Jorhat town is all set to inaugurate the Ninth edition of Book Fair from October 26.
Speaking to Assam Times, the organizers say sellers and publishers from Delhi, Kolkata, Dehradun and Ludhiana, apart from those based in the state, have confirmed their participation in the 12-day event.
Publication houses of international standing like Prentice Hall, Oxford University Press and Cambridge will also participate in the fair opening at the Jorhat District Sports Association ground.
The focus of the Ninth Jorhat Book Fair is a State-level seminar by the vice chancellors of all universities and leading educationists. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, education minister Ripun Bora have also confirmed their participation in the function.
The organizers maintain that purpose of the seminar is to pave the way for a roadmap to building up the skills and qualifications of the state’s students so that the prospects for their absorption in industries.
Further, the meet will explore the need for effecting necessary changes in various fields of the higher education sector, they say.
Special sessions of close interaction, book release functions and cultural shows will be the regular programmes of the book carnival. On October 28, an on-the-spot drawing competition will be held for schoolchildren.
They expressed grave concern over the government’s failure to appoint permanent principals and vice-principals in the government colleges at Diphu and Haflong and also to fill up the vacancies against the posts of teachers in these colleges.
They allege the provincialisation of the PG classes of Diphu College has yet to start not to speak of introduction of PG courses in the Haflong College.
The demand provincialisation of the 12 other colleges in Karbi Anglong and 5 other colleges in North Cachar Hills districts without delay.
