Encephalitis death toll rises to 5 in Golaghat

With four more children succumbing to encephalitis here, the death toll due to Japanese encephalitis or brain fever rose to 5, The dead were identified as Dulal Bora (6) of Chungajan, Moina Begum (12) of Dakhin Hengera, Amrit Bhuyan (12) of Hautoli , Zilbarta Tamak (12) of Kowani and Dandeswar Dutta (52) of Morangi. Meanwhile, 25 people suffering from suspected encephalitis are undergoing treatment at Golaghat Civil Hospital and doctors described the condition of some of them as serious. It is to be mention here that Japanese encephalitis, which often hits children, is caused by a mosquito-borne virus that attacks the brain. Symptoms of the disease start with a very high fever, followed by seizures, vomiting, then vomiting of blood. The Golaghat health department has already taken steps to prevent further spread of the disease.
