Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights and Development


In a bid to make the northeastern region children-friendly and ensure the children enjoying every rights given to them Snehalaya, who has been involved with child-welfare for more than a decade and Don Bosco University has started a Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights and Development from this year.


“Snehalaya, who has been working to promote and protect the rights of children for the last 10 years has felt that there is a dearth of trained social workers in this area who could render their services to these children,” said the VC of the varsity Stephan Mavely.


“As Don Bosco University has the avowed policy of initiating socially relevant courses and research with a view to preparing generations of graduates who are equally committed to the society, we have decided to start a Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights and Development,” he said further.


The course which would commence from August this year, deals with integral components like child rights, child counseling, child psychology, child care service, child protection issues and child related legislations.


“Anyone who takes this course will be equipped with skill, knowledge and expertise to work with and understand children better and to give their best for the cause of children. Through this course we would like to install passion and sensitivity in the participants,” said the coordinator of the programme Riju Sharma.


“The course is open to any graduates in any streams and working professionals in the field of social work, juvenile justice, child welfare, education, law, psychology and counseling too can get enrolled,” she said.


On completing one year the participants would get a diploma and after two year they would be offered a degree by Assam Don Bosco University.


“We are confident that this course, designed with all the accumulated experience and learning of all these years, will cater to the long-felt need for a specialized course in the child rights and development that brings in an inter-disciplinary approach to the study encompassing inputs from law, psychology, sociology, pedagogy and best practices from around the world,” said Father Lucas of Snehalaya.

Darrang Deputy Commissioner on Sunday suspended Dr Jiten Saharia, in-charge of the blood bank at Mangaldai Civil Hospital and two laboratory technicians Ranjit Chandra Deka and Padmadhar Baruah for negligence of duty.
