ISF threatens for economic blockade

The Indigenous Students’ Forum, the students’ wing of Indigenous People’s Forum has threatened to launch economical blockade throughout the district of Dima Hasao district very soon if the government fails to fulfill their demands of bifurcation of N C Hills district in to two districts with separate autonomous council within this month.

This was disclosed in a press meet held today (Monday) at the office of the Indigenous Students’ Forum, Muolhoi near Haflong in presence of Sri L. Hlima Keivom, President, ISF, Seiminthang Thangngew, Gnl Secretary, Namrang Zeme Secretary. Information & Publicity, Ngamrothang Khobung, Convenor, Media Cell, H. Sangkhum Riengsete, President, Hmar Students Association and Paoram Zeme, Gen. Secy, Zeme Students Union.

It is stated that the NCHISF was deeply disappointed to see the delay of the Govt. of Assam in processing Bifurcation of the N.C.Hills District (Forcefully renamed as Dima Hasao District/turning of their ancestral land into (Dimasa Home-land) by the Govt. of Assam. A Group of Ministers to look into the Demand of the Indigenous People's Forum (IFF) was constituted way back on 16th July 2010. But the Group had to be dissolved again in the wake of the Assam Assembly Elections in April 2011 before holding a single Talk with the IFF. And after formation of the new Govt. the Group of Ministers is yet to be formed again.

The NCHISF has adopted democratic and peaceful means of Movement in its demand for Bifurcation of the District. However, its Democratic means of Movement have not bee paid due consideration by the Govt. of Assam. Now, it tends to lose faith in the Democratic means of Movement and was badly upset. The Forum might be compelled to intensify its agitation programmes in the near future if a due consideration was not paid to its peaceful means of Demand for the Bifurcation. It was surprising to see the inclination of the state Government a well as the Central Government towards the violent Movement of the DHD.

It earnestly prayed the Govt. to kindly see the security of the non-Dimasa Indigenous People of the District by expediting the Bifurcation Process and Bifurcate the District: One exclusively for the Dimasas and the other for the Indigenous Non-Dimasa People of the District prior to initiating anything further in the interest of the Dimasas, it is added.

I say that its not the issue to be so violent by threatening the govt.and the people of dimasa.Instead they should think for the better development of the dist rather than to divide. If so the bifurcation is also made there will not be development in the dist.If the people of dima hasao should come together and work for the development in the various fields like Education,Health,Communication and the society. Being influenced by the third party with the issue of bifurcation will not bring any solution in the dist. They should find the way to live in peace and harmony together as brother7&sister in the inhabitants dist. The people of the dist is not going to loose anything by changing its name nor any benefit. As a long inhabitants of the dist, should again maintain the good relationship with all the different tribes living in the dist. The ISF oR ANY organisation against dimasa are non other than the few resident tribes of the dist.I don't hear any other tribe going against the maintenance of peace in the dist.except HMARS and few NAGAS who wanted to get status of the dist after being migrated from the other states. I hope the good relationship should be brought again without rising any unnecessary issues rather than to focus in the development of the dist.
