Preparation on to tackle flood at KNP


The world heritage site Kaziranga National Park, the home to the rare one horned rhino and several other species of animals has to reel under flood every monsoon. Every year flood plays havoc among the animal community of the Park. The animals abandoned the secure confine of the park and come to the nearby places in search of food and safe shelter and a number of accidents takes place when the animals tried to cross the NH-37, that runs through the Park. In a bid to avoid such mishaps in the coming season, the park authority in collaboration Bokakhat and Kaliabor administration has decided to issue Time Cards to the passing vehicle. Already the Chief Conservator of Forest has ordered the immediate deployment of 150 additional forest guards in Kaziranga from nine different forest divisions of the state. Preparations are also being made on a war footing to set up 10 barricades from Burapahar area to the Panbari area. To cope the crisis 168 numbers of hand boats and two speed boats have been geared up and for night patrolling a team of 4 animal keeper and 6 doctors will be kept ready. Already Bokakhat and Kalibaor administration have imposed Sec.144 from Burapahar to Latabari area of Kaziranga National Park.

Numaligarh Refinery , situated at a distance of 250 KM from Guwahati and 25 KM from Golaghat, was engulfed in a devastating fire broke out at the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) of the refinery in the wee hours of morning on Friday. “The fire was started at around 5.24 am and in a joint effort by the fire tenders of NRL, Bokakhat, Dergaon and Golaghat were able to put off the fire at 9.40 am.” Kajol Saikia of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. Members of Golaghat Regional Students’ Union today started a week long signature campaign demanding solutions to various problems of Golaghat town.
