Rongali Bihu Celebrated In Kuwait


Assamese community in Kuwait under the aegis of Asom Association, Kuwait has celebrated the Rongali Bihu with traditional gaiety & funfair on 13th of May 2011 at Al-Murzan Hall of Hotel Crown Plaza. The highlight of the evening was an enthralling performance by renowned singing maestro from North-east Smti Shanta Uzir accompanied by her Music composer husband Mr Bhupen Uzir. Smti Uzir entertained the crowd with her everlasting melodies rightly blended with the lots of hit tracks from other renowned singers of the region and a medley of Bihu numbers. The jam-packed audience swayed to the rhythm of the music fully engrossed till the end. Other major attractions were a number of variety program performed by the members of Assam Association and their children. Amid an ambience replicating the Assamese culture & panoramic sceneries decorating the venue, Bihu Husori by members was an instant hit with the crowd. Among the programs, notable were a melodious Chorus by the members, Zikir by children, and Assamese Folk Dance by the little ones and a well-choreographed fusion dance by the girls.


The program was inaugurated by His Excellency Sri Vidhu P Nair, Charge d’Affaires, Indian Embassy, Kuwait with traditional lighting of the lamp. An exhibition was also organized displaying the rich art & culture of the region which was well adored by all. To commemorate the occasion, a colourful souvenir ‘Jetuka’ showcasing the art & literary work of the community was released by His Excellency. Other major attractions were the Raffle prize “one Return Ticket to Mumbai” by Jet airways, and gift hampers by Ajmal Group. Evening ended with a gracious multi-course dinner which was savored by one and all. Several leading houses came forward to sponsor the event which included Ajmal group, Ceasars Group, Jet Airways, Gulf Bank, MI Swaco, Smith International, Hughes Christensen, Moghul Mahal to name a few. Asom Asociation will remain ever grateful to all those organizations/ individuals who had supported it, without which it won’t have been possible to stage such a gorgeous program and look forward to similar gestures in future.
