Assam swimming coach to train in USA

Rajib Dey, empanelled coach of Assam Swimming Association, is being invitation to Salo Swim Camp organised by the University of Southern California USA, from June 12 to July 1, where he will work and train under two-times Olympic Coach of USA David Salo. The participation of Rajib dey is expected to enhance his capacity as a swimming trainer.

The Raha Unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today burnt the copies of the 129th Constitutional Amendment Bill at Raha Chariali to oppose the India-Bangladesh land-swap deal. An Assam-based journalists organization appealed to people not to follow the I-day boycott diktat on Thursday.In a statement, the Journalists' Forum Assam sad that it wants everybody to celebrate the Independence Day to pay tribute to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.The organization has asked people of the region to hoist the national flag at their houses and at other significant locations.Media people are urged to join the celebrations of India's 67th Independence Day at the Guwahati Press Club Aug 15.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he has nothing to object if the Centre grants Bodoland. Talking to reporters in Delhi on Monday Gogoi said, “I am open to it. An All India Congress Committee general secretary Avinash Pandey is on a visit to Diphu and Kokrajhar to study the statehood demands of various ethnic communities. AICC leader Avinash Pandey held a meeting with the state Congress leaders in Diphu a day before his visit to Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts where the demand for separate Kamtapur and Bodoland states is getting strident.State party leaders apprised him of the statehood demands of Karbi, Dimasa, Koch Rajbongshi and Bodo communities.He will submit his findings to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on his return to Delhi. 
A dreaded KPLT militant was killed at an encounter with police in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday. The encounter took place during an operation in Bokajan where the militant identified as Tom died on the spot. Five other militants fled from the encounter spot. Later police recovered an AK-56 rifle along with a magazine, 72 rounds of bullets.
