Assam swimming coach to train in USA

Rajib Dey, empanelled coach of Assam Swimming Association, is being invitation to Salo Swim Camp organised by the University of Southern California USA, from June 12 to July 1, where he will work and train under two-times Olympic Coach of USA David Salo. The participation of Rajib dey is expected to enhance his capacity as a swimming trainer.

Bollywood actor-director Amir Khan in on a 5 days personal visit to Assam. Accompanied by his family members, the Loogan director landed at the Salonibari airport at 1 pm on Wednesday and straightly left for the Circuit House where is lodging. Four persons were killed when a vehicle carrying them to Guwahati collided its head on a scorpio vehicle on its way to Dhemaji on Thusday. The head-on-collision took place in the wee hour on the National Highway 52 at Kocharigaon. Four person on the Guwahati-bound Alto car died on the spot while those inside the Scorpio vehicle were injured to be sent to the hospital.
Yet another alleged incident of gangrape struck Guwahati. The main accused is in police custody. The incident took place at Maligaon where three youths allegedly gangraped and assaulted a 20 year old girl under the flyover at 11 at night. Local residents rescued the girl and caught the main accused who was handed over to the police. But the two others managed to flee from the spot. Later the girl was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College. Apart from interrogating the accused, police are waiting for the medical report to confirm it a case of gangrape.
Two back to back earthquakes struck Assam on Wednesday leaving 2 dead in Golaghat besides demolishing several school buildings in the district.            The earthquake measuring 5.5 in the Rickhter scale originated at Borpothar along Golaghat-Karbi Anglong district border at 9.48 in the morning.           Two persons died in Golaghat district as they were trying to run out of ther homes when the quake started shaking.  Apart from this, cracks surfaced in several buildings housing schools. Properties worth one crore reduced to ashes when a Guwahati-based bar caught fire on Tuesday.           The incident took place at the Midtown Bar Christian Basti probably because of electrical short circuit at 5.30 in the evening.   Fire tenders reached the spot in time but it had to fight for almost 3 hours to bring the situation under control.           Investigation is going on.
Guwahati Book Fair gets underway on Tuesday.           Assam governor JB Patnaik open the 10 days book festival at the main venue in Chandmari.       Patnaik in his address said that the event would help the state and its people strike a permanent deal with the book culture.     Patnaik further gave away Assam Publication Board-sponsored award to noted educationist Dr Amalendu Guha.

In yet another incident that can brew an orgy of group clash, unidentified miscreants vandalized idols of the goddess Kali in a few temples and puja pandals in Baksa district on Monday. The Assam government on Monday has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 6 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured Gendamari. Six killed on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the GMCH. Nine other people have been undergoing treatment at the GMCH. The district has embroiled in violence since October 20 after Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections declared scheduled to be held in between November 13 and 25. The Non Rabhas demand exclusion of non Rabha areas from the Council.
A gory incident that left 7 people in Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya has forced the authority to clamp night curfew on Monday. Army and police are on patrolling duty at Gendamari area where suspected GNLA militants shot dead seven persons at a dewali function on Sunday night.The night curfew is in force from 7 in the evening to 6 in the morning. National Highway 62 between Damra in Assam and Dalu in Meghalaya as well as NH 51 between Paikan and Dalu along with Khargang-Resubelpara road are not under the purview of the curfew.
