Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
