Congress wrests Raha crown

The congress supported candidate Piyush Hazarika has won the 82 no Raha LAC seat defeating his rival AIUDF candidate Guneswar Das , the sitting MLA,by a margin of 18,00 thousand votes. Piyush Hazarika secured 56,430 while Guneswar Das secured 38,447 votes.

This is Congress second victory at Raha after late Annada Barua when he was elected from this constituency in 2001. In 2006 this constituency elected AIUDF candidate Guneswar Das and there was a prediction by the voters that AIUDF might be able to win this LAC for the second time. But to voters surprise and making all speculations wrong the Congress candidate won the seat and declared his victory gracefully.

Among the other candidates contested from this constituency were the BJP candidate Surya Kr Das secured 18,238, AGP candidate Umesh Chandra Das secured 13,894,All India Trinamul Congress candidate Dilip Das secured 1,499 and CPI ( Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) candidate secured 1,197 votes respectively.
