Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away

Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

I am extremely shocked and sorry to hear about Hazarika sir's demise. It certainly is a great loss... Gratitude and respect. May his soul rest in peace

IED recovered in Kakopothar

In another incident, police recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from the kitchen garden of a house in Hahakati area under Kakopothar police station in Tinsukia district. The IEDs were buried in the garden.  Police said the IEDs, each weighing around five kg, were recovered following a tip-off. Youth killed in Tinsukia firing

Security forces claimed to have killed an ULFA militant in Tinsukia district  on Saturday. Aaranyak has expressed its deep concern at the continued poaching of rhinos in different parts of Assam. In first two weeks of the new year already rhinos are poached in Kaziranga, Orang and Manas NP. NFAI restores 9th Assamese film Runumi

Annada Gohain expires

Annada Gohain, a resident of Kharghuli, breathed her last on 19th September 2011 at a private hospital in Guwahati at the age of 81 years. She retired as Additional Director (Agriculture) under Assam Government in 1987. In 1948, she graduated with Chemistry Honours from Cotton College. In 1955, she went to Australia for a special two year Food Technology course conducted by the University of New South Wales under the Colombo Plan.
