Akhil urges Raha voters to oust Congress


Hightlighting the large scale corruption and scams done by Congress Government both in the centre and the state the peasent leader Akhil Gogoi of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti ( KMSS ) urged the voters of Raha not to vote for the congress candidate in the second phase election to be held at Raha on April 11 next.


Addressing a huge public rally today at Raha Sports field, the RTI activist said that Congress party’s manifesto had nothing to say about the issue of big dams and price rise, which reflects their stance towards the common man’s problems which is why it is high time for people to oust Congress party from both the centre and the state.


“I would like to appeal to the voters of Raha not to vote for the congress candidate as the party has given birth a rampant corruption ranging from public distribution system to N C hills scam besides imposing Company Raj and Mafia Raj on the ordinary people “ Gogoi said. He further appealed to the voters to exercise their rights in the polling in a big way against the Congress party and save the state from dying. He also flayed the party for not showing interest to solve the issues faced by common people of the society.


The meeting was also attended by KMSS president Molan Laskar and other KMSS Raha unit officials.

Various local organizations on Saturday called off the rail blockade at Chapormukh scheduled at Raha demanding AAIMS in Nagaon district.Local leaders told Assam Times that they decided to withdraw the proposed blockade in view of the assurance from the Deputy Commissioner that he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.         Many local organizations scheduled the rail blockade in Raha on Saturday to intensify the demand. Congress sweeps the Tiwa autonomous council polls in Nagaon and Morigaon six months ahead of the assembly polls.The ruling party got absolute majority in the Tiwa autonomous council polls in the two districts with 15 seats out of 31.Tiwa Aikyo Manch got 9 seats while BJP had to remain satisfied with 3 seats followed by AGP in one seat. To press their demand for an AIIMS here, the senior citizens of Raha and neighbouring places supported by the members from other civil society groups today staged a sit -in-stir at Raha Chariali , led by Mohan Hazarika, president of the Raha senior citizens association.A two hour bandh was also observed from 9 to 11 am by the business community here protesting state government's decision to shift the AIIMS venue from Raha to North Guwahati.

Normal road service came to a grinding halt for several hours in Raha when thousands of people blocked the National Highway for not allowing to set up AIIMS in central Assam.With banners and festoons in their hands demanding AIIMS, thousands of people started pouring on the highway forcing many buses and other vehicles to remain stranded for more than five hours.     Talking to Assam Times the protestors said, “We have been demanding  AIIMS in Nagaon district.
