Rongali Bihu Utsav 2011 at Mumbai


Assam Association, Mumbai (AAM) is going to organise Rongali Bihu Utsav 2011 at two venues. The details are as follows:



1) Date: Saturday 16April 2011, Timing 6-10pm



Venue: Ganapati Maidan,Behind Gakuldham Shopping Market, Opp Dindoshi Bus Depot, Goregaon (E),



Contribution: Rs 500 (per family) or Rs 150 (individual)



NB: Limited dinner packet will be available at venue.

Tinsukia: Army operating in Tinsukia district escaped a major bid when suspected ULFA militants tried to blow up a powerful grenade on a convoy but missed the target narrowly. Army’s 6 Jammu Kashmir Rifle’s troops were on petrol when this incident occurred. The incident occurred near Bordubi Tea Estate under Domdooma police station in Tinsukia District at 11:30PM on Thursday. Later when Army retaliated one ULFA militant was killed on the spot The deceased ULFA cadre was identified as Kumud Borah alias Jayant Moran alias Gandia of Nalani village in Tinsukia. Army also recovered a grenade from the slain militant.

Doomdooma : Suspected ULFA militants killed a SULFA man Pranab Moran at Kerani Gaon near Kardoiguri, under Domdooma police station at 9.30 PM on Wednesday according to police sources. A group of two to three youths came to the grocery shop owned by Pranab just as he was about to sleep. The youths knocked on the door and asked for a packet of bread. When he opened the door to give them the packet they fired on him and flew away. Military personal stationed nearby rushed to the spot after they heard firing and brought him to the local hospital. Diphu : Heavily armed militants belonging to Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), on Wednesday night, gunned down at least 9 persons all Bihari migrant workers in Karbi Anglong. According to police there were 5 women among those killed.Three others were seriously wounded in this attack. DIG Central range Dr. L R. Guwahati : There has been a bomb blast at Hengerabari near Dispur capital complex at 3.25 PM on Wednesday.Police say that three persons have been injured in this blast. The bomb was planted on a Rickshaw when it exploded. Police have rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the Hospital. Police suspects the bomb to be a Programmed Timer Device( PTD).

Lakhipur ( Cachar ) : Suspected Dimasa militants had killed three innocent civilians at Hari Nagar under Lakhipur police station in Cachar district on Tuesday evening. According to the police a group of 12/13 armed youths had entered the Bazaar at about 8.30 PM and opened fire indiscriminately. Three people were killed and several others were injured. Motives of the killings are not known yet. Police suspect that the dreaded Black Widow and NSCN (IM) are jointly behind this killing. Identities of the killed are yet to be ascertained
Guwahati : Two star boxers of the state Kalpana Choudury and Pranamika Bora had been awarded cash incentive by the central government for their magnificent performance in the international meets. Kalpana had been awarded Rs Three lakhs for her bronze winning effort in the world boxing championship held in Moscow in 2005 while Pranamika Bora received Rs Two Lakhs for her silver medal that she won in the Asian Boxing Championship held at Taiwan in the same year.
Guwahati : The Assam Athletic Association (AAA) would felicitate its medal winning athletes of the recently concluded 33rd National Games and Asian Grand Prix Athletics Championship.
