voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore NDFB-S militant at an encounter in Kokrajhar on Thursday.The incident took place at Aaodang bazar when two armed militants started indiscriminate firing at a joint team of police and army jawans.When retaliated with firing, one of the militants died on the spot while another sustained serious injury.Later police claimed to have seized three greandes, a bike and two mobile phones from the encounter site.        
The death of a girl from Manipur inside a hotel room seems to have mired in utter mystery in Guwahati on Thursday.The incident took place at the Hotel Welcome in the Ulubari area where the girl from the Ukhrul district in the north eastern state has been lodging with a boy whom she falsely identified as her brother.But the boy who in fact, hails from Udalguri informed the hotel authorities that the girl was found hanging.The body was sent for post mortem. But the reason of the suicide has yet to be ascertained.   
A full grown tigress continues to unleash a reign of terror in Guwahati these days.The epicenter is Kahilipara after three leopards were captured during the last couple of weeks.A police patrol team on Thursday spotted the tigress in Dotalruwa area in the foothills of the Narakashur hill.But the tigress managed to escape from the spot amid deepening darkness. Forest officials arrived in the spot. But they could not trace the tigress. According to the forest official, at least three leopards have been moving in the area in search of food.
Man elephant conflict refuses to die down. The victim this time is a couple in Dhemaji district.The shocking incident took place in Chechutoli on Thursday wee hours where a hard of wild elephants trampled to death a tribal couple. Further the elephants damaged their hut.   
AICC poll panel is holding a close door meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to clear the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Earlier, the screening committee has prepared the list and sent to the party’s poll panel for approval.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is leaving for the capital on Thursday to attend the meeting.The list is expected to be announced on Monday or Tuesday.  
BJP state unit’s poll panel is holding a close door meeting on Thursday to fine tune the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7, 12 and 24.The poll panel meeting is taking place at an undisclosed location where the list would be cleared for all the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies.According to sources, president Sarbananda Sonowal will leave for New Delhi towards the evening to get the list approved by the party high command.
Finally, AASU has called off strike against Oil India Limited in Duliajan.But the respite is temporary as the student body lifted it in view of the large scale inconvenience of the common people who has been repeatedly asked AASU to do it.The decision was taken after the oil giant authorities agreed to talk to them on Saturday.AASU leaders told Assam Times that the 300 hour strike resulted in the state’s dimal power scenario due to marginalized power supply of gas by the oil giant to the thermal projects and Neepco projects.The strike was called by AASU in protest against the alleged anomalies in the recruitment of 300 unskilled workers.         ...
Police are all set to produce Akhil Gogoi before court on Thursday four days after the KMSS president was arrested in connection with the recent self immolation case.According to sources, police will seek extension of Gogoi’s remand for two or three more days.Gogoi along with five others would be produce before the court in the afternoon. 
The Election Commission has made it clear that they won’t allow any doubtful voters to exercise their franchise.Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Wednesday, Chief Election Commission said that there is no scope for allowing the D voters to vote in Assam in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7, 12, 24.Various political parties have been demanding voting rights for these voters.          
A former ULFA leader is all set to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls this time.He is none other than Hira Sarania who joined the peace process with the Centre in 2010.Sarania will field from Kokrajhar constituency to be backed by non Bodo tribal voters.
