Award to the author of Omar khyam
The author of famous novel Omar Khyam (based on Rubayat) Professor Pradip Saikia, former principal of Nagaon College and a well known translator, has been awarded for his incomparable translated works in Assamese for the year 2006.
The translation award, instituted in the year 2002 in the memory of late Amulya kumar Chakravarty, who himself immortal for his brilliant translation work of Homer's epics Iliad and Odyssey and some other English classics, will be presented on October 7 at the Sankardev Kalakshetra under the joint auspices of Brihattar Panjabari Sahitya Sabha and the Amulya Chakravarty Memorial Trust in collaboration with Kalakshetra. Dr Birendra Nath Dutta, the former president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha will be the chief guest on that occasion.
It is worth mentioning that Prof Saikia,a resident of Nagaon, translated Jyotiprasaad Agarwala's historical play / novel Karengar Ligiree (Palace Maid) to English.
