She displayed tremendous mental power during the nerve-wracking final in Archery recurve during the national games in Jamshedpur. The Assam girl faced the hostile atmosphere to down the Commonwealth games gold medalist and local girl Deepika Kumari six sets to four to clinch the gold medal stunning the whole country.
She is Prativa Boro, who along with other medal winners of Archery in various recent tournaments including the national games was feted by Assam Archery Association in Guwahati recently.
Prativa Boro, mother of an engineering student who was once a fierce player of Hockey is determined to perform better in the coming days and bring more glory for her state and the region. But the archer rues at the lack of facilities for the players in the state.
“Definitely I would try my best to do better in coming tournaments. Hopefully if I get selected in the national team the goal would be to fetch a gold medal,” said Boro who is an employee of Assam Police.
“We had to practice with limited facilities here. I’m sure if we were provided with the adequate facilities the performance would definitely go higher. As it is a costly game we need more help to continue our process,” she said adding that she had to buy a bow of her own for Rs 1.5 lakh recently before going for the national games.
Prativa who has shifted her game from Hockey to Archery in 2003 said she always concentrate to be focused on basics rather than worrying about the opposite player or the situation.
“I never let the situation or the images of my opposition effect me. I prefer to go to the game following my coach’s guidelines and try to stay cool. It is as simple as that,” Prativa said when asked how she overcame the hostile situation during the final of national games. Deepika Kumari, her opposition being a local the crowds was backing her creating a tough atmosphere for the Assam girl.
“Besides doing physical training and practices we do meditation to cope with the tough situations during the match hours,” added Prativa whose son Rakshat Boro is studying Bachelor of Technology in a city college.
Apart from Prativa Boro, several other players including Kansai Borgayary who won the another gold in archery and Sanjay Boro who being a sub-junior player stunned Asian Games silver medalist Tarundeep Rai in the national games were also felicitated.
