Lesson for kids

It was a different sort of experience for the school kids as they accompanied their parents to have a look at the ghastly sights which could be outcome of bad habits. An exhibition showcasing the ill effects of consuming alcohol, drug or gutkha in Glacier School in Guwahati left the kids in a unanimous decision that they would never touch the those and bar others too stay away.

With a motive to leave a mark against the bad effects of tobacco and tobacco effects the school authorities decided to organize an exhibition where it was well displayed with huge posters portraying the images of people diagnosed with various diseases for having these stuff.

“The drug abuse has evolved as a serious threat to our society. We have seen young boys and girls being affected by it causing lot of problems. Neither the government nor any other organizations have been able to bring a halt to it,” rued Pabina Singh, the principal of the school situated at Noonmati area.

“I think the schools could play a major role in changing the scenario by taking various steps in our own ways. These days the parents too could not spare more times with their kids. As the students spend most of their times in their schools with teachers so I think such activities in the school could be very helpful in building their character,” she said adding that they are also trying to help the students take active part in such programmes so that their hidden talents as a kid could be recognized.

Even the parents are seen to be engaged along with their broods during the exhibition as several senior students of the school explained them in details.

“I think it would have an effect at our kids as we have noticed that they are really terrified seeing the posters which were being displayed here. Normally they don’t listen to us if we ask them to do something,” said Niru Deka, a mother of a student of the school who was accompanying her kid.

“From now onwards, I would ask my father not to smoke as it is shown here that smoking can be fatal and I will always take milk and fruits,” whispered a class II girl standing beside her mother.
