AJYCP protest rally against Barhmaputra Board

Slogans against the Brahmaputra Board roared in the city roads when the activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad taken out a huge protest rally as the Board fails to take appropriate steps towards protecting Majuli from erosion and possible extnction. The student Parishad urges the State Government to maintain a fair policy to save Asia's biggest river island Majuli where half of the soil is under water due to the havoc flood this time. The activists symbolize the Board as a "White Elephant" as it has only reached the status of a department of no use. They took out the mock rally with a replica white elephant and ended it with throwing to the river for its funeral.

30,000 people have been displaced after floodwaters entered 20 villages in Majuli. Majuli, with a population of about 150,000 people, once covered a calm and prosperous 1,500 sq km that was dotted with Hindu monasteries. So intense was the erosion that Majuli was reduced to a quarter of its size and became prone to extensive flooding.
