Dulal Roy, Gyanada Kakati felicitated
The prominent actor, director Dulal Roy and actress Gyanada Kakati were felicitated with this year's the coveted Natyaprabar Sardakanta Bordoloi Award and Silpapran Chandra Phukan Awards respectively, at a function held at District Library Auditorium, Nagaon on 5th September 2007.
The function was organised by Natyaprabar Saradakanta Bordoloi and Silpapran Chandra Phukan Smritirakshya Samiti in collaboration with Rangmahal, a socio-cultural organisation of Nagaon and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Roy and Kakati accepted the awards from eminent actors George Baker and Abdul Mazid accordingly in presence of many well-wishers. The awards carried cash amount of Rs.25,000 each alongwith a letter of appreciation. The Cultural Minister Gautam Bora, Premada Phukan, wife of late Chandra Phukan and Gautam Bordoloi, son of late Saradakanta Bordoloi also attended the function. Rockybul Hussain, State Forest Minister, released a souvenir Natyaprabar-Silpipran on this occasion.

An Executive Member (EM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council, Hema Kanta Deka was arrested by police on November 10 on charges of cheating and illicit collection of money from unemployed youth of various parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts assuring them government jobs. A police source revealed that Hema Kanta Deka, who also served as General Secretary of Morigaon District Youth Congress, has been pocketing lakhs of rupees from hundreds of unemployed youth since 1992, assuring them jobs specially teachers' ones in LP and ME schools of the aforesaid districts.

The All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU) has called for 36 hour Central Assam Bandh from 5 am on November 5 in protest against the State Government move to hold Panchayat elections in the Tiwa autonomous areas. Bibekananda Bhattacharya, an eminent tabla player, passed away at his Nagaon, Amolapatty residence at around 8 am on September 28. Bhattacharya, who was immensely popular for his immeasurable skill on tabla playing in the cultural field of not only in his home state but also in other parts of the country, was 77 at the time of death. He was suffering from renal complications for some time and was undergoing treatment at the GMCH till September 26. It is interesting that neither the health minister nor the cultural minister of Assam paid a visit to him while this great personality was on hospital bed.
