Block level science competition at Tangla

A block level science based competition has been arranged at MVM ( Maharishi Vidya Mandir) School,Tangla on January 31. Aryabhatta science Centre Kalaigaon Block, under the aegis of ASTEC (Assam Science Technology & Environment Council),Guwahati organised the programme in association with MVM, Tangla.Several hundred students and teachers from ten schools from Tangla and Kalaigaon, namely- Maharishi Vidya Mandir,Tangla; Jatiya Bidyalaya Asom,Tangla;Asom Academy,Tangla; Tangla HS School; Tangla English Medium H School; Arunodoi Academy,Tangla; Bholabari HSchool,Kalaigaon; Kalaigaon Girls H School;Klaigaon Girls MV School and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kalaigaon participated in science based- poster drawing, extempore speech and science model competition.A total of 18 nos of spectacular science models were displayed by the students.


DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle,Tangla hoisted the Aryabhatta flag at 9 AM to mark the beginning of the competition.On the occasion he requested people particularly the students and teachers to take advantage of the latest electronic devices to enrich knowledge for welfare and development.Madhab Sarma,president ASC,Kalaigaon and principal of JNV,Kalaigaon formally inaugurated the open session at 12 AM,which was presided over by Rajashree Bora, principal, MVM, Tangla.Napoleon Daimari, principal, Arunodoi Academy,Tangla attended the session as the guest of honour.The coordinators of ASC,Kalaigaon felicitated him for sending as many as twenty numbers of science projects from his school to Udalguri district NCSC session,held at Ramswarup Agarwalla Memorial English School in October.2010.Child scientist Siba Boro of Tangla HS School was also felicitated at the session for his successful participation at the national level NCSC session in Chennai city in the month of December 2010 as a member of Assam child scientists' team.A few distinguished people namely- Golap Ahmed Hussain,Keshab Saharia, Naren Boro, Hemanta Deka etc also attended the open session as judges.


In science based extempore speech competition- Upamanyoo Das (Arunodoi Academy, Tangla) won first prize while Manoj Kumar Sarma (JNV,Kalaigaon) and Jayanta Debnath (Bholabari HS) won second and third prizes.In science based poster drawing competition Khanjan Das (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla) won first prize,while Dipanjay Deka (JNV, Kalaigaon ) and Nabajyi Rabha (MVM,Tangla) won second and third prizes. In the science based model competition- the model of recycling of waste plastic by Marjina Begum, Minjuara Begum and Nisha Moni Sarma (Bholabari HS) won first prize while the model showing effects of smoking by Chintumoni Chakravorty and Ankan Bhattacharya (MVM, Tangla) won second prize and model oil extracting plant by Aryan Deka and Nishanta Kalita (Tangla Eng.Medium HS) third prize.All the winners will take part in the district level science competition to be held at Udalguri in the month of February under the supervision of Udalguri district administration.

Wild tusker found dead in Udalguri

The carcass of a 80 years old wild tusker has been found at Phulungjhar Kolbari of Udalguri district near Indo-Bhutan border at 12.30 pm on December 14,taking death toll of wild elephants to 8 in 2012. The dead body bore no injury marks and eye witnesses say that the tusker was limping on its legs the previous day. Forest officials claimed to have rescued both the tusks. Chasing away wild elephants near Indo-Bhutan border

A massive operation to chase away wild elephants from villages of Udalguri district was launched from Paneri tea garden at 10.30 am on December 10. Dhansiri Forest Division organized the operation at the direction of Bonjar Daimari,Deputy Speaker,BTC,Santias Kunjur,EM,BTC and Rihon Daimari,MLA,Udalguri. Exam cancelled due to teachers absence

Annual examination in Tarabari LP school in Bhergaon sub-division near Tangla could not held due to absence of all the teachers. According to information examinees had to return home without appearing their annual examination after waiting for hours in the school on December 5. Wild elephants kill one at Paneri

In another tragic incident,one Joseph Munda (21) s/o late Batras Munda of village Nepalibasti near Nasonsali under Paneri Police Station has been killed by wild elephant at Gitibari area at 8.30 pm on December 2 taking death toll to 7 human beings this year only. Unabated felling of trees continues in Khalingduar

Khalingduar Reserve Forest in Udalguri district has witnessed severe destruction of forests along with the presence of hundreds of wild elephants damaging paddy and houses of villagers. Although the matters have taken serious turn,forest department with just seven or eight people could neither chase away wild elephants nor stop smugglers involved in poaching or tree felling. Wild elephant found dead in Udalguri

The recovery of a dead female wild elephant at Paneri in Udalguri district has caused serious concern among nature loving people. The 8 years old female wild elephant was seen in a tea garden drain of Paneri TE in the morning hours of November 23. Forest officials could not determine the cause of the unnatural death of the elephant and post-mortem report is waited.It needs mention that so far 7 wild elephants and 6 people have lost lives in Udalguri district during 2012 only. Environmental NGO Forum formed

In order to strengthen the environmental movement in Assam, 25 Assam based environmental NGOs met over a day-long programme at Lakshmiram Barua Sadan on October 20 and decided to form an environmental NGO Forum to deal with all environmental issues of the state. The Forum shall keep a strict vigil on conservation initiatives being carried out by government/non government agencies to ensure that resources are wisely used to benefit environment conservation.
