AGP meet at Barpeta

AGP organised a Gana Satyagrah on January 10 at Barpeta town. The event was attended by thousands of people which was held at the filed near law college Barpeta. All the central AGP members took out a procession from the district municipality playground shouting with the slogans against the government. MP Kumar Dipak Das, Phani Bhushan Choudhury, working president AGP, Dr. Manoranjan Patowary, MLA, Naba Kr Nas, organizer secy, Prabindra Deka, Dipak Das, Liyakat Ali Khan, MLA etc. were also present.

Jail Bhoro program of CPI (ML)

Barpeta district CPI(ML) today observed jail-bhoro programme protesting against the skyrocketing price hike and the continuous corruption in implementing the various NREGA schemes of the entire district. The district unit took out a procession with slogan against the governments towards the deputy commissioner's office and in front of Deputy commissioner's office they staged demonstration. The urged the government for controlling the skyrocketing price hike which has made the lives of the general people measurable. On the other hand the corruption in NREGA schemes also harassed the people depriving the proper persons.

Manas National Park will open from November 4

World olders' day observed in Barpeta

World Olders' Day has been observed under the aegis of Soceity for Human Resource Development (Assam) at Tarun Ram Phukan Hall, Barpeta. The event was presided over by Kulen Misra, Head of the Dept, Chemistry dept, Madhab Choudhury College Barpeta. In this regard, a discussion was also held on various diseases of old age and the recovery. Participating in the discussion Dr. K.K. Barpeta AGP unit stage dharna against price-hike of essential commodities

The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the DC Barpeta to take appropriate measures on the sudden price hike of the essential commodities.

Denmonstration of Gramin Dak Sewak union at Barpeta

Barpeta district Gramin Dak Sevak union today staged two-hours-long demonstration at Barpeta post office premises demanding to submit the report of 6th pay commission. Mentionable that about 3 lakh Gramin Dak Sevak have been serving in a nomial rate year after year. Though other postal workers have been getting the benefits of the central govt, these Gramin Dak Sevas have been deprived of the facilities. Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva tithi observed at Barpeta

The death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva was observed at Barpeta Satra (Assamese monastery) by conducting a traditional Kirtan Mahotsava. Kirtans are devotional songs sang in the local language. According to the tradition, a regular prasanga(prayer) was held in the morning and later the gayan- bayans performed gurughata and then Bhojan Byebahaar was held. In the evening Ghosa Kirtan, Byah Kirtan, and at night Bardemeli were performed. In Dakshin Hati, devotees of Sri Sri Madhabdeva took out procession in accordance with the xatriya tradition. Workshop on Goalpariya Folk Dance completed

A fortnightly workshop on Goalpariya Folk Dance was held here at Barpeta from Aug 12/09 to Aug 26/09 organized by The Directorate of Cultural Affairs at the premises of Barpeta Cultural Centre. Anganwadi workers staged demonstration

Barpeta district Anganbadi workers/ helpers Association staged a 4-hour demonstration at DC office premises on September 1 protesting to fulfill their various demands. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it was stated that they have been urging the govt to fulfill their demands, but all are futile. In their demands payment of the enhanced rate on central govt salary to the workers; 80% reservation in the vacant post of the chief service women, upgradation of the helpers in the vacant post of Anganwadi workers, stop the work of ICDS to the NGOs.
